Meet Fatima

Dr. Fatima La’Juan Muse is a medical family therapist, educator, and community advocate running for State Representative for Texas House District 2. Born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana, she earned her bachelor’s degree in Speech Communications and Theater Arts from Dillard University, her master’s degree in Marriage, Couples, and Family Counseling from Southeastern Louisiana University, and her PhD in Medical Family Therapy—with a specialty in reproductive health—from Saint Louis University.

Fatima's roots in Hunt County run deep. Her mother was raised in Greenville, Texas, alongside twelve brothers and sisters, and Fatima spent every childhood summer there—surrounded by family, running around small-town streets, and falling in love with a community built on connection and care. Those summers shaped her bond to District 2: generational ties, small-town warmth, and memories like her first kiss under the Fourth of July fireworks at Greenville’s Graham Park.

After completing her doctoral training, Fatima chose to make Commerce, Texas her home, turning down other opportunities because she believed in the value, potential, and spirit of this community.

With decades of professional training in empathy, deep listening, conflict resolution, and collaborative problem-solving, Fatima brings a leadership style uniquely suited to public service. Balanced enough to listen, bold enough to fight, and brave enough to lead, she’s known for her Hell in Heels determination—compassion with a backbone and the tenacity to deliver real results for District 2. In other words: she listens first—and then gets to work!
